Prema Gopalan
Prema Gopalan is an Indian social activist. She co-founded the Society for the Promotion of Area Resource Centers (SPARC) in 1984. Her shefoughtback journey starts when she founded Swayam Shikshan Prayog (SSP) in 1993 for supporting poor rural women in entrepreneurial schemes. She also helped in disaster relief work in Bihar, Gujarat, Kerala, Maharashtra , and Tamil Nadu.
Gopalan has received awards from the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the United Nations Development Programme. Since 2009, through SSP, Prema has empowered over 180,000 grassroots women to solve problems through revitalizing rural economies. Prema Gopalan and her team have built vibrant eco-systems to enable solving the problems of their communities through small businesses.
